Background
The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is an independent non-governmental organisation established in consultation with international experts in conflict resolution and democratic advancement. DPI seeks to promote peace and democracy building through strengthened public dialogue and engagement.
The Project Officer will implement programme and project activities while also providing strategy and administrative support to the CEO, helping to coordinate organisational priorities and key initiatives.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Project implementation
- Working with the Senior Programme Officer and other programme staff, play a central role in the implementation of programme and project activities, in line with donor requirements and organisational strategy, including but not limited to:
- Logistical planning for events by researching suppliers, gathering quotes, and presenting options to support informed decision-making
- Preparation of events materials.
- Managing event preparation when hosted in Turkey and abroad (including reserving tickets, arranging accommodation and transportation etc.)
- Assisting with post-event financial reporting, including gathering receipts, logging expenditure, and supporting accurate allocation of costs in line with internal procedures.
- Managing programme documentation, including maintaining records and supporting the collection and filing of consent forms.
- Drafting, editing and ensuring timely development, delivery and tracking of all necessary correspondence for DPI events (e.g. prepare agenda, contact speakers etc)
- Ensuring timely write up of the event proceedings (event publication) which requires taking detailed minutes during events, editing and finalisation to a high standard of the event discussions under Chatham House rules.#
- Support colleagues with the development of DPI research products and donor reports.
Strategic and administrative support to the CEO
- Work closely with the CEO on organisational strategy development and implementation of strategic priorities.
- Ensure the implementation of strong internal systems and processes.
- Provide research, drafting and administrative support to the CEO on an ad hoc basis.
- Support the CEO with other activities when required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND PERSONAL SPECIFICATION:
Essential:
- 2-3+ years working for an NGO, including supporting project management.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (Communications, Journalism, International Relations, Political Science, English etc) or comparable practical experience.
- Strong strategic thinking skills, and experience developing and/or implementing project strategies.
- Excellent time-management and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organised and ability to prioritise workload.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.

Background
The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is an independent non-governmental organisation established in consultation with international experts in conflict resolution and democratic advancement in Türkiye and the region. DPI seeks to promote peace and democracy building through strengthened public dialogue and political engagement.
Through its Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), the European Union is funding an 18-month programme on supporting inclusive dialogue and peacebuilding in Türkiye.
Purpose & Objectives
DPI is recruiting a Communication Consultant to meet key KPIs for its newly secured EU project.
The Communications Consultant will design, implement, and manage all strategic communications for the project from launch through close-out, ensuring consistent messaging, strong public visibility, and documented impact.
The consultant will:
- In line with the approved project proposal and logframe, develop and operationalise a comprehensive communications strategy in close collaboration with the Programmes team.
- Lead external communication throughout project lifecycle.
- Provide continuous communications support and reporting on communications and donor visibility activities throughout the project implementation.
- Produce end-of-project visibility and impact documentation.
Scope of Work
- Inception
- Review project proposal, logframe, donor requirements, and implementation plan.
- Develop a comprehensive communications strategy and action plan including target audience, key messages, brand and tone guidelines, channels, KPIs etc.
- Obtain approval of communications strategy internally and from the donor.
- Produce relevant materials for pre-project implementation (Press release, project fact sheet, website landing page content, social media starter kit)
- Implementation & Ongoing Visibility
- Develop and maintain a quarterly communications workplan.
- Produce ongoing content in line with the Communication strategy and work plan
- Create quarterly communication reports.
- Manage and analyse digital platforms related to the project.
- Coordinate media engagements and feature stories.
- Support community outreach and stakeholder engagement initiatives.

Reporting line
The Communication consultant will be reporting directly to the Head of Programmes on progress and deliverables.
Level of Effort (LoE)

Fees & Payment
Daily rate: £310-£320 (depending on experience)
Paid upon completion of each deliverable.
Key requirements
- At least 5+ years’ experience in a mid-level communications role for NGOs.
- Additional 2+ years’ experience working as an independent consultant.
- Strong knowledge of the EU communications guidelines and experience working on EU projects.
- Experience working in peace building, conflict resolution etc. desirable.
- Turkish language a plus.

Overall Purpose of the Position
The Head of Programmes and Operations is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the organisations’ project activities and leads the DPI Programmes team, also ensuring effective and enabling line-management of Finance, Fundraising, Programmes and Operations colleagues. The role works with the CEO on operational, fundraising, strategic and monitoring levels and involves representing DPI at external meetings and events as needed.
Project Management
- Coordinates the day-to-day operational management of the DPI’s programmes, including the implementation of activities and financial matters – in close coordination with relevant colleagues.
- Monitors the implementation of project activities and ensures compliance with donor requirements, the organizational strategic framework, as well as internal procedures and policies.
- Initiates and facilitates internal programmes and events planning meetings (including designing the agenda and overseeing the organisation and preparation of materials)
- Organises regular meetings with the Programmes team to ensure project plans and donor requirements are on track.
- Keeps an up-to-date overview of programme delivery, reports any challenges, and suggests solutions to the CEO.
- Builds project budgets with Finance, monitors project expenditures, develops financial strategies and addresses financial challenges.
- Monitors the political and security situation in Türkiye and the wider regions, developments relating to the conflict and impact on the project.
People Management
- Ensures the effective line-management of the Funding and Development Manager, Finance Manager, Operations Manager and Programmes staff.
- Organises regular check-ins with direct reports, to enable effective management of workloads, ensuring priorities are met, and to facilitate professional development and staff retention.
- Works closely with the Funding and Development Manager to ensure timely delivery and monitoring of contractual reports, including interim and final reports to donors.
- Oversees deliverables and performance of the M&E and Communications consultants.
Networking
- Represents and promotes DPI’s work in varied contexts and maintains relationships with external stakeholders in Türkiye and in Europe such as political party representatives.
- Builds and maintains relationships with partners and donors alongside the Funding and Development Manager when needed.
- Carries out frequent visits to Türkiye and maintains a good working knowledge of the facts on the ground when needed.
Governance
- Leads on the planning of regular Board meetings, in collaboration with all relevant colleagues and the CEO.
Key Experience/Technical Competencies/Knowledge required for the position.
The successful candidate should have the following:
- A postgraduate degree in Political Science, Law, Conflict Resolution, International Relations, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 8-10 years’ experience in project management in charity or NGO setting.
- Extensive experience with line-management, and a commitment to fostering an engaging and inclusive team culture.
- Strong experience of overseeing the implementation of government and/or EU funded projects.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Critical and strategic thinking skills.

Our volunteering programme is an exciting opportunity to get first-hand insights into the workings of an NGO addressing peace-building and conflict resolution, and to develop your skills and gain valuable work experience at the start of your professional career.

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is seeking to appoint several legal volunteers with an interest in our work relating to conflict resolution. We are offering a number of internships to outstanding candidates. Admission to our internship program is on a rolling-basis, lasting at least three months, and is unpaid. The successful candidates will be current or recent postgraduates or at post-doctoral level.
Volunteers recruited to DPI’s International Law Department will assist with all areas of its work, in particular, current projects relating to the implementation of ECtHR judgments in Turkey and legal analysis on matters related to international humanitarian law. Other work could include legal research, monitoring and analysis of human rights issues, documentation/organisation of legal materials, analysis of ECtHR judgments, preparing and drafting communications to United Nations bodies, contributing to casework, preparing papers for submission to the Human Dimension of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, editing reports, and providing general support to the legal team. In return, we will provide experience of and insight into the world of international human rights litigation and exposure to legal research at the forefront of conflict-resolution and peace-building.
The suitable candidate will be available ideally full time (Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 17.30) but other arrangements can be made. You will have the opportunity to assist with the general work of the legal department for a period of three to six months, with a particular focus on our legal case-work and on the implementation of ECtHR judgments in Turkey. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to work closely with – and learn from – the Programme Manager and other team members in planning and implementing DPI project activities, which include roundtable meetings in the region and international comparative study visits, as well as conducting project related research in the Institute’s main areas of interest, which include governance and constitutional reform; DDR and SSR; gender and conflict; the role of the media in conflict resolution and democratic reform process; and transitional justice among others.
DPI seeks candidates with a strong interest in international relations, conflict resolution and democracy building. These volunteer placements begin on a rolling basis and typically last three to six months, are unpaid, and preferably full time. A daily stipend is provided for lunch expenses. The successful candidates are likely to be current or recent postgraduates or at post-doctoral level.

The Democratic Progress Institute is currently seeking to recruit a Funding and Development Intern for 3-5 days per week for a minimum of 3 months.
The position will focus on assisting the Finance and Fundraising team and tasks may include but are not limited to: research (development and grant-related, legal, political, policy, organisational), data entry, writing for publication, drafting, summarising, proof reading and editing.
Excellent written English skills and the ability to carry out administrative duties are requirements for this role. Moreover, the successful candidate will have an interest in fundraising as well as monitoring and evaluation and possibly already show some familiarity with the principles of fundraising within the NGO/charity sector. Candidates with an academic background in peace and conflict studies in the MENA region and/or human rights are especially encouraged to apply.
Also desirable is experience with Canva or other related software.

A unique opportunity to get involved in a conflict resolution and peace building organisation based in central London. DPI aims to foster an environment of sharing information, ideas, knowledge, and concerns for furthering of democratic solutions and outcomes. Our work supports the development of a pluralistic political arena capable of generating consensus and ownership over work on key issues at political and local levels.
The role includes the provision of administrative assistance to the CEO. Responsibilities will include arranging meetings, travel, and accommodation and maintaining the schedule of the CEO. Specific Tasks include but are not limited to:
- Maintain CEO’s diary,
- Prioritise all incoming events inquiries for CEO and manage travel schedule,
- Respond to and coordinate responses to inquiries for CEO by mail, e-mail, and phone
- Carry out ad hoc small-scale research and analysis
- Prepare briefing papers and speeches as necessary
- Organise and maintain the department and files of the CEO’s office including registering and archiving materials
- Ensure smooth organisational communication and at times makes changes in procedures to deal with variations in workload
- Prepare for and take minutes at meetings, including Board meetings
- Other tasks and responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications and Person Specification:
The successful candidate should need to meet the following criteria:
- Preferably holds a university degree in Law , however a degree in international relations, political sciences, or related fields are also acceptable.
- Excellent communication skills with an emphasis on written and spoken English plus analytical skills
- Strong administrative skills
- A keen attention to detail and ability to prioritise as well as multitask
- Flexible and resourceful approach to work and a “can do” attitude
- Professional demeanour when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone
- Capacity to work in a highly pressured environment, while remaining calm
- Ability to take initiative and prioritise tasks, excellent time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills

The Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) is seeking to welcome volunteers to work within the Institute’s Programmes Team. Key areas of focus include conflict resolution and democratic transition processes in Turkey and Syria. Each volunteer will have the opportunity to work closely with – and learn from – the Programme Team in planning and implementing DPI project activities, which include roundtable meetings in the region and international comparative study visits, as well as conducting project related research in the Institute’s main areas of interest, which include governance and constitutional reform; DDR and SSR; gender and conflict; the role of the media in conflict resolution and democratic reform process; and transitional justice among others.
DPI seeks candidates with a strong interest in international relations, conflict resolution and democracy building.
These volunteer placements begin on a rolling basis and typically last three to six months, are unpaid. A daily stipend is provided for lunch expenses. The successful candidates are likely to be current or recent postgraduates or at post-doctoral level.

Duties and Responsibilities |
Assist the Programmes Team in the following: · Support in the preparation and generation of social media content for DPI social media platforms. · Prepare social media analytics reports on regular basis. · Support the social media coverage of DPI’s events and conferences. · Assist in the logistical and communication preparations of key events and activities in coordination with the various teams. · Provide support in producing videos and infographics capturing key messages of DPI’s work around the world. · Assist in planning and implementing new campaigning opportunities that promote DPI’s mandate. · Assist in writing press releases, human and success stories and feature articles related to the various projects and activities/events. · Assist any other duties as may be deemed necessary. |
Candidate Profile Project Skills:
The successful candidates may be invited to attend external conferences and DPI activities both in Turkey and elsewhere, and to write briefs and take detailed notes on behalf of the Institute, with a view to help in post eye catching visuals on social media.
Experience in Social Media strategy development and the use of various social media platforms will be essential. Skills in graphic design, photoshop and video editing as also required.
Projects involve a high level of external communication with the diverse stakeholders engaged with DPI’s work, therefore excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
IT skills are essential (Word, Adobe, PowerPoint) and project management experience is welcome.
DPI’s Programmes Team operates within a fast paced environment, often planning and implementing ambitious projects to tight deadlines and within high pressured contexts on the ground. It is important that the successful candidate is self-motivated and able to work successfully independently and with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven interest in and knowledge of DPI’s areas of focus; namely conflict resolution and democratic advancement (including but not limited to the MENA region).
