Hosted by the Swiss Embassy in Ankara and co-organised with DPI, this Peace Table brought together women leaders, policymakers, academics, civil society actors, and legal experts to explore how to strengthen women’s roles in Türkiye’s peacebuilding efforts, using UNSC Resolution 1325 as a guiding framework.
International peace and gender expert Antonia Potter Prentice delivered a keynote on the global impact of Resolution 1325, stressing the urgent need for Türkiye to develop a National Action Plan. Dr Esra Çuhadar, UN mediation adviser and academic, analysed the resistance women encounter when trying to participate in peace processes and outlined nonviolent strategies to overcome these barriers.
Throughout the discussions, participants emphasised the importance of cross-sector collaboration, engaging men as allies, and ensuring intersectional inclusion — such as bringing in the perspectives of women with disabilities. The event provided a vital platform for exchanging expertise and best practices, producing actionable recommendations and reaffirming DPI’s commitment to promoting women’s meaningful participation in conflict resolution across Türkiye.
