Peace Table, Conflict Resolution and Constitution-Making in Turkey III: ‘Constitutional Priorities in the Kurdish Case and Confidence-Building Steps in Constitution-Making Processes’,  Istanbul, 23-25 September 2022

From 23–25 September, DPI hosted the third and fourth sessions of its Conflict Resolution and Constitution-Making series in Istanbul. The peace table brought together academics, lawyers, policymakers, civil society members, journalists, and senior political figures from across Turkey to explore the constitutional changes needed to address the Kurdish issue and the importance of rebuilding trust between politicians and civil society.

Professor Vahap Coşkun opened the first session, highlighting the need for a new constitution to reduce societal polarisation. Key areas discussed included mother tongue education, citizenship, and administrative structures. The second session, led by Professor Zeynep Ardic, focused on the historical demand for constitutional reform and the need to foster public confidence, emphasising that disarmament should precede legal changes.
