DPI ONLINE PEACE TABLE – NEW POLITICAL BALANCES IN TÜRKIYE: OPPORTUNITIES FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION, 26 FEBRUARY 2024

On 26 February 2024, DPI hosted an online Peace Table titled New Political Balances in Türkiye: Opportunities for Conflict Resolution. During this Peace Table, writer and political commentator Ali Bayramoğlu discussed upcoming DPI report of the same name, in which he discusses the recent and upcoming elections, the new and changing political dynamics of the country, and the implications these have for conflict resolution. During his presentation, Bayramoğlu outlined the three sections of his report; the political zeitgeist during the election period, the political zeitgeist between the presidential and upcoming March local elections, and finally the current dynamics and prospects for conflict resolution in Türkiye. Following the presentation, participants were able to engage in a lively Q&A and discussion session. A variety of themes and topics were brought up during this session, including the ways to make the Kurdish issue a priority in the country again, how to engage people in the country on the Kurdish issue, as well as feelings of hope and hopelessness, and the importance of hope to political power. Participants were made up of representatives from a variety of political, civil society, academic, business, and media organizations from across the political spectrum.
