Assessment Meeting with Mehmet Kaya, ‘The Current Economic Situation in Turkey’ London, 27-29 January 2022

DPI hosted a detailed assessment meeting in London with Mehmet Kaya, Chairman of the Diyarbakır Chamber of Industry and Commerce, to evaluate Turkey’s pressing economic challenges and its connection to peacebuilding efforts. Discussions highlighted the severe inflation crisis, the burden of military expenditure, and the need for both domestic reforms and foreign investments to ensure long-term stability. Kaya emphasised that resolving the Kurdish issue would not only improve Turkey’s political climate but also unlock significant economic benefits. The meeting underlined the importance of involving a wide range of stakeholders — from businesses to diaspora communities — in future peace strategies.
