Peace Table, Conflict Resolution and Constitution-Making in Turkey II: ‘Peace and Counterbalancing the Ruling Power in Turkey’ Istanbul, 28-31 June 2022

As part of its Conflict Resolution and Constitution-Making in Turkey series, DPI held a peace table focused on the evolution of Turkey’s political system and its impact on peace efforts. Professor Dr. Sevtap Yokuş, a constitutional law expert, provided insights into the new system’s structural challenges, including democratic imbalances and limited political participation.

The event brought together academics, legal experts, policymakers, journalists, and political figures from across Turkey to debate the strengths and weaknesses of the parliamentary and presidential systems. This discussion provided a valuable platform for open dialogue ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The event marked the launch of DPI’s 2022 project, “Voicing Peace and Fostering Inclusivity in Turkey”, supported by the Norwegian, Swiss, and Irish governments
