ROUNDTABLE: Lessons Learnt from International Experiences of Conflict Resolution

Ankara, Turkey, 29 September 2018

Today the Democratic Progress Institute (DPI) held a Roundtable in Ankara entitled “Lessons Learnt from International Experiences of Conflict Resolution” with the aim of sustaining inclusive dialogue in Turkey, even in the most challenging times. While recognizing that every conflict is unique, the meeting drew on a series of country examples of peace and transition processes around the world, including in South Africa, the Philippines and Northern Ireland, which offer useful examples of principles, models and approaches that can guide conflict resolution and democratic advancement.

Participants of the event, including political party representatives, civil society and media figures, business people and academics, had the opportunity to discuss challenges, opportunities and lessons learnt with prominent conflict resolution experts and key actors with direct experience in these international cases. As the distinguished panelists of the event, former UN Under-Secretary Sir Kieran Prendergast, Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue’s Eurasia Regional Director David Gorman, former Presidential Advisor on the Philippines Peace Process Teresita Quintos Deles and former Chief Negotiator for the South African Government Roelf Meyer shared insights and valuable policy and civil society perspectives from their own experiences.
